THE CURIOUS MIND JOURNAL

Look again. There’s a pattern here.

A change in shape, a shift in color, a different number of elements. Pattern tasks ask you to notice what stays consistent as other details change.

Track one attribute at a time

Count the elements, compare orientation, inspect position, then look for combinations. Working systematically helps prevent an appealing but incomplete explanation.

Multiple rules can interact

An item may change both shape and orientation. A rule that explains only one attribute may leave two plausible answers. Check all examples before selecting.

Interpret your performance carefully

Pattern familiarity influences performance. A high count on a small collection of visual tasks is a record of those responses, not a validated measure of creativity or overall intelligence.
